SENIOR DATA ENTRY OPERATOR
CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY

Starting Salary: $44,650
This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Under the direction of the Head, Database Maintenance Unit, search the Polaris and OCLC databases for bibliographic records of titles to be added to the Chicago Public Library online catalog. Evaluate records found and download correct records for the catalog. Prepare spine labels using the OCLC label program. Complete database maintenance projects using Polaris. Record monthly statistics using Excel. Attend regular meetings, workshops, and training courses; participate in staff training as needed. Perform related duties as required..
LOCATION: 400 S. State St, Chicago, IL 60605 Collections, Content, and Access
DAYS OFF: Weekends
SHIFT: Monday through Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of data entry work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview and written test / skills assessment. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled. Bid candidate(s) receiving a passing score on the test and possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
- Fluency in Chinese and knowledge of other Asian languages, such as Japanese, Korean, etc.
- Work and/or volunteer experience in a library
- Familiarity with Polaris
- Experience with Integrated Library Systems
