Job Description
Your responsibilities as a Senior Associate will include:
- Support deal teams on a portfolio of investment executions: guiding each deal through closing by coordinating all internal and external resources to underwrite, negotiate, document, approve, and fund investments
- Support Origination in coordinating, analyzing, and negotiating a variety of transactions and structures, including financial modeling, drafting and negotiating key terms of investments, and/or acquisitions
- Assist in origination of development, late stage and other lending opportunities for renewable energy projects
- Produce market analysis to support internal origination and marketing efforts
- Assist in managing internal customer relationship management processes and software for the investment portfolio, including process oversight, data entry, company reporting, deal team review, and building repeat business with existing clients
- Produce supporting materials for deal presentations to management
- Create and maintain financial models used at various stages throughout an investment’s term to assess economic feasibility of the projects, track impacts of changes to commercial terms, and maintain perspective on the investment thesis
- Analyze project documentation and information, typically under rapidly changing conditions, to support the deal team in building appropriate legal, collateral, and technical structures in conjunction with internal Leyline teams
- Collaborate with deal team to identify critical investment risks, and prepare summaries and other internal investment documentation to support due diligence, underwriting, and deal structuring
- Keep abreast of market trends and look for new opportunities for capital deployment
- Track and facilitate funding requests.
- Review and maintain internal financial models, coverage ratios, milestones, and budgets as needed to ensure ongoing compliance requirements are met. Facilitate communication between the Loan Servicer and the borrower as needed for binary compliance deliverables (financial statements, insurance certificates etc.)
- Present Monthly Portfolio Reviews to the C-Suite
- Managing our relationships with Developers for post-close investments, learning and adapting to each project’s unique dynamics as their primary contact throughout the loan term.
- Hold regular calls with the borrower to discuss project progress and deal status. Maintain a trustful and respectful relationship with the borrower.
- Understand the borrower’s overall strategic plan beyond the individual Leyline investment in efforts to identify future investment opportunities
- Manage and delegate responsibilities to Analysts as needed
- In the event of a material commercial change to the deal, such as an amendment request or failure to exit at maturity:
- Present to and discuss the change with the VP Risk Management along with initial recommendations for next steps
- Prepare initial drafts of preliminary financial model updates, amendment term sheets, and investment memos as needed in collaboration with the VP Risk Management
- Lead or participate in all discussions with the borrower, ensuring communication is clear across all parties
Requirements The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
Required - Undergraduate degree
- 4+ years of direct work experience in renewable energy industry
- Demonstrated understanding of financial structuring, including debt and equity project structures
- Strong command over complex financial models with the ability to build financial models from scratch
- Ability to operate at a high level in an autonomous work environment
- Strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Superior communication skills across internal teams
- Team player who can manage multiple priorities and quickly adapt to rapidly changing deal and development demands, including setting and meeting realistic deadlines
- High degree of curiosity, creativity, proactive mentality, and desire to work in entrepreneurial and collaborative environment and join our mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Preferred - Relevant transactional experience in renewable energy, investment banking, or principal investing
- Experience in building renewable energy project models, with emphasis on an understanding of development stage costs and budgets.
- Expertise in offtake, advisory, capital markets, or similar
- Large network in the renewable energy industry
