Shriners Children's Ohio offers specialized treatment for children with burns, plastic surgery needs, and complex wound and skin conditions. We are one of only four freestanding hospitals in the United States dedicated to the treatment of pediatric burns and specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

  • 7 bed (expanding) unit with a mix of both critical and non-critical patients
  • Unit is staffed with burn/critical care surgeons and plastic/reconstructive surgeons in collaboration with pediatric intensivists. 4 APRNs and rotating surgical residents also serve the unit.
  • Patient Population: Acute burns, burn reconstructions, and post-operative care of craniofacial patients.

Job Overview:

Shriners Children's is actively seeking a Pediatric Intensivist to join our growing team at Shriners Children's Ohio in Dayton. The Pediatric Intensivist will be responsible for the medical management of all patients on the unit (both critical and non-critical), in close collaboration with the attending burn/critical care surgeon. A major focus for the candidate will be on the daily management of post-operative craniofacial patients and post-surgical patients. Schedule will be predominately nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide high level pediatric critical care clinical services to patients including, but not limited to:
    • Performing and recording history and physical examinations
    • Recording and interpreting pertinent patient data
    • Developing, documenting, and executing a treatment plan
    • Writing routine orders for appropriate laboratory studies, imaging, and consultations
    • Performing patient/parent teaching
    • Assisting with patient follow-up
    • Performing appropriate screenings
    • Administering medications as required
    • Ordering and/or performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as indicated by patient findings
  • Perform, publish, and present clinical and/or translational research
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Make suggestions to the Department Chief and/or attending staff that may be beneficial to the improvement of departmental and/or hospital policies and operations.
  • Participate in the call schedule as assigned
  • Develop, maintain and promote effective working relationships with other physicians and hospital staff
  • Participate in staff meetings and hospital committees
  • Use hospital resources efficiently
  • Abide by hospital regulations, bylaws, and policies
  • Maintain good professional relationships with the broader medical community

Qualifications:
  • Must possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Must have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited pediatric residency program.
  • Board certified or board eligible
  • Must have completed relevant fellowship training in pediatric critical care
  • Must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of OH
  • Must be eligible for DEA license
  • Must possess Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Experience providing care for critically ill pediatric patients in an intensive care setting. Experience working with burns and craniofacial reconstructions in a post-operative setting highly preferred
